My first day in Riga

I was very excited about coming to Riga. However, people look like a little bit "reserved". This is something that I am not used to, as I come from Spain where people are quite opened. Obviously it has to do with the weather, the hotter your country is, the more spontaneous will be its people... It is also true, that the history of Latvia has been quite severe with its citizens... and this will take years to be overcome.

Spain suffered 40 years of dictationship (Franco's Era) and I belong to the generation who was born in freedom with more right and benefits than never in Spanish history.

Nevertheless, I remember when I was a teenager (16 or 17 y.o) and used to go the the gay clubs and pubs. They were almost empty, as HOMOSEXUALITY was then openly condemned in that society. It seems to the that here is happening something similar right now.

Youngsters are the future of the nation, and they will realize (as we did in Spain) that being gay is not a crime and that we also deserve to be citizens of full right as "straights" are. They have in fact the power to change the future of the nation and make of Latvia a prejudice-free country.
